FAQs
Why do people begin therapy?
Therapy is a way of learning to understand yourself better. It is a way to help you make the changes you want within yourself and your relationships so that you can feel a greater sense of fulfillment and ease.
How can therapy help me?
Therapy is a process of self-discovery that can help us to deal more effectively with life’s challenges and to feel more comfortable with ourselves. The result is often an improvement in health and in general well-being. People of all ages and backgrounds are able to grow and learn from therapy. There is never a "wrong" time to begin.
What type of therapy do you provide?
While there is no such thing as a “one size fits all approach” to therapy. I primarily practice psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach seeks to understand our emotions, thoughts, early life experiences, and beliefs so that we can gain insight and create positive change in our lives.
How does change happen?
The relationship that forms between us creates an avenue for understanding habitual ways of behaving and relating. By exploring underlying conflicts and ways of relating that are at the root of problems, insight is gained, and change becomes possible. Over time, we can learn to cope with difficult feelings and develop new ways of thinking.
How long is therapy?
Therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes for individuals and 1 hour for couples. It is helpful for us to meet weekly at a minimum. The length of time while in therapy depends on individual circumstances and will be determined together.
What does the first session look like?
For many people, it's scary to ask for help, and you may feel nervous in the beginning. This is perfectly natural. Our first session is a time for us to get to know each other, review office policies, privacy and confidentiality. Keep in mind that therapy is not about instant solutions, rather it is about equipping you with life-long solutions.
Do you provide medication?
I do not provide medication. If necessary, I will provide you with a referral to a psychiatrist, a medical doctor who specializes in prescribing and managing medication. Medication is not a replacement for talk therapy.
What are your privacy policies?
Your right to privacy and confidentiality are protected by law and HIPPA. I will provide you with documentation of my privacy policies prior to our first appointment.
What is the cancellation policy?
I will do my best to reschedule whenever possible. Cancellations are subject to a full charge if not received at least 24 hours in advance This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you.
Do you meet by phone or online?
Yes, I am available for in-person, online or phone sessions. In person sessions are subject to change due to Covid.
